BARBERS & HAIRDRESSERS of the past

Barbers in 1300s Europe were city gate-keepers.

Hair-cutting scissors were considered doctor's tools,
although number 8 is just silly.

Human hair was in demand commercially in 1884,
for wigs, belts, necklaces and rings.

1889 hair clippers. Something similar was
sold in the 1960s so parents could save money by
cutting their own kids' hair. Kids were told
not to complain.

A 1960s women's hair salon would be an
experience in itself, and that's something you could
say about the whole decade. If we add to that the
tedium of everyday life, we get the general ambiance.
