This 1880s shopping mall layout is still used today.  Bottom level is groceries snacks and cheaper retail,  street level is more expensive stores,  and top level is an art gallery.  Notice the working escalator . . . powered with electricity or even steam?

 Each artist would paint the same pictures over and over with little variation.
